Understand first. Improve with purpose.

Start by understanding the environment, the challenges and the organization’s needs. From there, prioritize standardization, modernization and security improvements with clear explanations and careful implementation planning.

Support can include network projects, scheduled onsite days, Level 3/4 technical support and managed network services.

Experience supporting school networks.

Professional experience includes network redesign, firewall, switch and access-point replacement, and AWS migration for public-sector and education organizations.

That perspective informs practical solutions for businesses and organizations, including those working across multiple locations. Clear explanations help teams handle routine operations with greater confidence, with experienced support available when needed.

About Josh

Josh, owner and network engineer

Josh is the owner and the engineer you work with directly — from the first conversation through implementation and ongoing support. Raised in Marshalltown and now living in Ankeny with his wife and two kids, he runs NewGen as a local business with a personal approach.

He began his career as a Network Engineer at Shazam in Johnston, then served as the sole Network Engineer for the Iowa Department of Public Health, where he redesigned the entire network — replacing firewalls, switches and access points and moving servers to AWS. He went on to do the same for Heartland AEA, where he works today, and for Saydel Community School District under contract.

His approach is straightforward: understand the existing environment before recommending changes, explain the plan in plain language, and implement carefully to keep disruption low — leaving your team with a network that is easier to manage day to day.
